Wall Mirrors-An Essential in Home Decor
Believe it or not, it was one of France's most notorious kings who is credited with first realize the benefits of decorating with wall mirrors. Louis XIV realized that mirrors multiplied the effect of everything (and perhaps most importantly for him, everyone) in a room. Anyone who has seen pictures of, or been fortunate enough to actually visit, the palace he had built at Versailles will know how serious Louis was about decorating with wall mirrors. The famous Hall of Mirrors in the palace is an entire hallway filled with wall mirrors that are approximately 18' tall and 6' wide. Of course the mirrors are actually a collection of a smaller mirrors assembled together to create the stunning effect.
Decorating with wall mirrors is an excellent way to liven up the spaces in your own "palace" as well. It is no secret that the reflective qualities of mirrors add light to any space. The secret to decorating with wall mirrors is location. Placing a wall mirror in a foyer will add light to this traditionally dark space as well as provide you with one last chance to make sure everything is "just right" before heading out into the world. If you position it just right, you can capture sunlight (or simply incandescent light) from an adjoining room. Decorating with wall mirrors can be a simple alternative to other lighting options (of course a nice pendant would really be a good idea out in the foyer, too!).
Another advantage to decorating with wall mirrors is that they seem to make any space seem bigger. While the Palace at Versailles had large wall mirrors running the length of the Hall of Mirrors, placing one at the end of a hallway will make it seem longer and add depth. Decorating with wall mirrors is an excellent way to make any cramped space feel more open and inviting. For a particularly stunning and creative visual effect, try finding a convex mirror to place on your wall. This is a good idea in any room that you burn candles in often but you just have to see the effect for yourself to truly appreciate its effect upon a room!
Decorating with wall mirrors is a fun way to enrich any space and you need not use only larger ones to do so. Grouping a series of smaller wall mirrors together can produce very appealing effects in spaces such as the bedroom or even a guest bathroom. Then, if you place some candles just right, the effects of the flames are multiplied and produce a wonderful effect of light and shadow.
It is important to remember when decorating with wall mirrors that they are heavy and you will need to mount them carefully. It is a good idea to buy a stud finder so that you are sure that they are secure to the wall. So long as they are mounted with care, decorating with wall mirrors is a sure way to add the feeling of more space and light to any setting and provide for some stunning visual effects.

Organizing Your Home The Family Room Living Room
Some homes have a "great room" and no living room, others have a "family room" and a living room. No matter what you call it or how many of these rooms you have, organization is necessary to make it a welcoming haven for your family.
Walk in to this room as a visitor would. Notice the small details that you've overlooked in daily living. Do you see clutter? Your guests do, too. To make this room inviting, we're going to reduce the number of *things* in this room and make it more homey.
1. What did you see in terms of clutter? Magazines and newspapers all over? Toys? Shoes lying around? Start with several laundry baskets (empty, please!) and put things that don't belong in this room in the baskets. The idea is to send things to different areas of the house in these baskets and make your de-cluttering that much easier. Throw away the newspapers and old magazines. If you're just not going to have time to read them, get rid of them. Why have them hanging around making you feel guilty? Put toys in the basket that will get them to their owners' rooms. Shoes should be kept in the room where their wearer lives. Now that you've done that (and delivered the baskets to the appropriate locations), go back and look at this room as a visitor sees it. Better? If not, keep going in small stages and steps.
2. If you look at your furniture, do you see fingerprints and dust deep enough to write a ransom note in? Do you even see the top of your furniture? If you can't answer the latter question, don't worry about the former one. Take care of the flat surfaces firstwe call this The Law of Flat Surfaces. This Law is defined by the idea that flat surfaces collect papers, no matter what the surface is: tabletops, armoires, desks, or floors. If you start with clean flat surfaces, you'll be more likely to keep them cleara little every day. Once your flat surfaces are clear, give them a once-over with a furniture polish (if appropriate) or glass cleaner (if appropriate). Run the vacuumdon't worry about getting the edges and moving furniturejust vacuum the places you can get easily. Chances are if you can't reach the areas easily, no one has been able to deposit large amounts of dirt or tracks back there, either.
3. Can you see your TV through the dust and fingerprints? If not, give it a once-over with the rag and some glass cleaner. Same with your stereo cabinet.
4. Now look up. Do you see cobwebs in the corners? Not a huge dealgrab a feather duster and knock em down. That's that!
You've tackled your family room and/or living roomcongratulations! Keep moving along, taking baby steps every day. Soon, your home will exude the warmth and hospitality you want.

Product Recall: Munire Furniture cribs Posted by Sandy Maple on February 28th, 2008 Filed under: Cribs and cradles, RecallsThe U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced the recall of about 24,000 baby cribs manufactured by Munire Furniture Inc., of Piscataway, New Jersey. The cribs fail to meet the federal safety standards in that the brackets supporting the mattress spring are too long and prevent the spring from lowering to the full 26 inch minimum height in the lowest position.

Have you ever thought about the many different furniture styles? Probably you have ever watched a program TV, where they showed people how to update an entire room of your house; let?s say the living room or bedroom. You can also read everywhere about the rustic style or about the Italian designs. However, do you know really what do these styles mean? We go deep into the different styles, which are the most demanded around the globe. Let?s start:
+ Rustic: This style is known because the using of natural materials. The pieces of furniture included into the rustic designs use to be handcrafted, with a strong cultural and regional touch in their pieces. Rustic style also brings to any home the feeling of begin more comfortable. It also reflects to be on most of their instances, casual tends, which makes it more personal than other styles.
+ Antique: Antique furniture styles are characterized by European interior houses designs. What is very important to point up is the fact of antique furniture is commonly made to be used, not displayed. Why? because the Italian style offer a wide range of materials to choose from, from wood up to marble, stone or fabric. Furniture pieces into the Italian furniture are ornate as well as large, sometimes using Roman sculpture and architecture. We go then to the French style. If you like crowed decorating prices of furniture, French is definitely yours. It often includes designs, elaborated and perhaps handcrafted with detailed carvings, with highly ornate patterns.
+ Fancy details with English furniture
The English furniture has been always made of woods, including principally walnut, oak or mahogany. This styles is very close to the American rustic one, due to its fancy details and the use of natural colors. The predominant color used on these pieces of furniture used to be is dark or natural colors. However, it depends on the era you base the English decoration. In the current world, there exist so many styles, materials and furniture designs, and it is evolving year after year. Cooking up a Lighting Plan for your Kitchen
Your kitchen, more than any other room in your home, needs a good well thought out lighting plan. Today's kitchens have many more functions than just cooking a meal. For many families it is the most frequently used room in the house. Besides the obvious preparation of meals, kitchens today are also a place for the kids to do homework, parents to pay the bills, reading, eating and watching TV. For this reason it is important that the light not only be adequate but flexible.
The first place to start in any room when devising a lighting plan is to address general lighting. This is the light that will be used most of the time. In the case of a very small kitchen, one light in the center of the room will provide the general light. With most of today's kitchens being larger, a single light fixture in the center of the room probably won't satisfy your lighting needs. The most common solution is recessed lighting. Depending on what part of the country you are in they may be called high hats or pot lights or can lights. All these terms mean the same thing. Recessed lighting is a good way to provide general lighting in a kitchen in a neat and clean way.
The placement of the lights is very important. When designing a layout for the general lighting in a kitchen, we want to take into account the areas where tasks will be done. This includes counters, islands and tables. In most cases, by designing the light to illuminate these areas, the rest of the room gets a good spread of general light as well. Try to have the recessed lights fall out on the ceiling so that they are directly above the outside edge of the cabinets. The key here is getting the lights close enough to the work area so that you don't create a shadow with your body. Putting the lights to far away from the counters is a sure formula for shadows. Don't overlook any nooks that may be dark.
Islands can provide a great outlet for adding a decorative fixture or fixtures to the room. There are a multitude of pendants to choose from that can really enhance the room. I find it is probably one of the most commented on aspects of a kitchen lighting plan when the homeowner sees the finished product. Simply installing 2 or 3 pendants in line over an island can be quite stunning.
The next step is the task lighting. In a kitchen this is the light directly over the counters, stove and sink. Having one or two small recessed lights on a separate switch over the sink is both attractive and useful. The stove these days is almost always lit from a fan hood or microwave but if it is not it should be addressed. The way the counters are illuminated is with under cabinet lighting. This can be in the form of simple fluorescent fixtures on an economical level. A very nice effect is to use low voltage linear track. These can be dimmed and provide very good light to the counters. There are also xenon fixtures and halogen fixtures. If you can try and stay with xenon as they burn cooler and have a longer bulb life than halogen.
After you have your general lighting and task lighting covered the last thing to consider is any accent lighting. On some kitchens where there is a space above the cabinets, lighting on top of the cabinets can look spectacular. Tray ceilings with crown molding can also benefit greatly from this type of lighting. Using either a low voltage type track or rope light, you can add that extra touch that makes your kitchen unique. For more lighting tips and lighting design help visit the links below.

Stoves from as long ago as the 1870s are available for purchase in antique stores and over the Internet. Antique wood stoves are collectors items that are very valuable to some people.
They are also great additions to restored homes, hotels, or museums.
There are many different types of antique wood stoves available. Some of the most popular types are Victorian models and pot bellied stoves.
Victorian wood stoves are made of cast iron and feature a wood-burning oven. They were often used for cooking and were usually kept in the kitchen. They are often large and rectangular; some have shelves and ledges above the oven that are used for storage. Victorian wood stoves are often elaborately decorated, with silver and gold inlays complimenting the iron body.
Pot belly wood stoves are shorter, squatter and smaller, and can be distinguished by their barrel-shaped body. Pot belly stoves have a round oven in the center of the body. These stoves are usually less elaborate than Victorian stoves, but they are still decorated with engravings and designs.
Many antique wood stoves are still in working order. People often use these stoves to cook food or heat their homes. The basic designs of most types of wood stoves have not been changed much over the last century, so people who use antique wood stoves are not giving up any type of modern convenience.
Antique wood stoves look great in hotels with a historic dcor. Many tourist attractions such as museums and old restored homes have antique wood stoves on display.
Antique wood stoves are valuable for several reasons. They are rare, making them collectors items. Most of them are still functional and they can add authenticity to historically themed hotels and tourist spots.
